Ferrari sells for ¥171 million at Japanese tax sale

A Ferrari sold for more than $1 million in an online auction for seized property, the National Tax Agency announced Friday.
The gunmetal gray Ferrari F12tdf, which was first registered in 2017 and had only 1,509 kilometers on the odometer, received 127 bids during the auction, which ran from Monday to Wednesday.
The winning bid was for exactly ¥171,001,000 ($1.09 million), about ¥100 million over the ¥71.3 million minimum bid set. According to carsensor.net, the average price of a used Ferrari F12tdf built between Nov. 2015 and Jan. 2018 is ¥181 million.
Information about the buyer of the Ferrari was not disclosed.
The National Tax Agency said the price is the highest ever secured in a public auction organized by Kioicho Strategy Institute that the agency has participated in. The previous record was a piece of real estate that went for ¥110.1 million.
A total of ¥221.39 million of moveable property including the Ferrari was sold by the National Tax Agency’s Tokyo Bureau in the recent auction, plus an additional ¥57.2 million of real estate.
At the auction, a watch sold for ¥16.9 million, and a golf club membership received a winning bid of ¥6.6 million.
